The current Financial Intelligence Service (FIS) of Ethiopia, formerly known as Financial Intelligence Center has been re-established by Council of Ministers Regulation no.490/2022. The Financial Intelligence Service has started operation in January 2012. Its establishment is part of the effort to bring different stakeholders together to combat money laundering & financing of terrorism.
As clearly stated in its re-establishment regulation, the objective of the Service is ''...to coordinate the various institutions involved in the fight against money laundering, financing of terrorism and profliration financing, to organize and analyze the information it receives as well as fulfill international and continental obligations and to perform other related tasks.''
